Rebecca Weissman leads our growing marketing, advertising and negotiations practice, in addition to supporting litigation matters. She approaches each matter with an analytical lens and economic mindset that she honed during business school.

Rebecca has experience with all aspects of marketing and advertising law, negotiations, and all phases of litigation. Her practice includes reviewing social media advertising, product placement and all types of contract negotiations. She’s been involved on both sides of litigation, overseen large document review teams, attended depositions and hearings, and drafted complaints, responses and motions to compel.

Rebecca is active in the community. She sits on the ACLU Next Generation Board. Each academic year, she mentors a 1L Northwestern Law student. She also interviews prospective students at both Northwestern’s Law School and Kellogg Business School.

Before joining Loftus and Eisenberg, Rebecca worked as an in-house marketing attorney at Ford Motor Co. (fully seconded from Loeb & Loeb, LLP). While there, she counseled on eCommerce and digital marketing platforms to ensure compliance with U.S. law, including legal guidance regarding the development of new mobile apps, websites, social media channels, TV ads, influencer contracts, endorsements, truth in advertising, pricing strategy and risk mitigation strategies. She also negotiated and drafted marketing partnership agreements with third parties, such as large media companies and brand partnerships. She attended a commercial advertising shoot as the sole attorney to oversee and counsel legally high-risk shoots.

Prior to that, Rebecca worked at one of the leading Intellectual Property boutique firms (won copyright firm of the year award) and worked in litigation at an elite law firm (won product liability group of the year award) on the opioid litigation cases, arguably the largest set of legal cases in the U.S.

Rebecca is incredibly proficient at Excel. She drafted an excel code for several cases that significantly reduced attorney time. She has extensive writing experience including drafting motions, complaints, expert reports, and written discovery. She has a business mindset and develops strategies consistent with client business objectives and case facts. She is a skilled negotiator, and has led negotiations involving other companies, across business units, opposing counsel and third parties.

Prior to law school, Rebecca worked in politics in Washington, D.C., including a stint on Capitol Hill in the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Rebecca graduated from the University of Oregon – Clark Honors College with a B.S. in Economics and Political Science. She attended and graduated from the dual J.D./M.B.A. program at Northwestern University. She completed both degrees in 3 years.

Rebecca lives in Chicago with her husband, child and 14lb rescue dog. Rebecca’s passion, second to law, is skiing. She was born and raised in Oregon on the slopes, was a ski instructor in college and in her spare time you’ll find her either downhill or cross-country skiing in the winter.
